Queen of the Happenstance Realm

Happenstance, it is all just happenstance isn't it? This blog is used to share my thoughts about whatever silly or serious somethin' or other that's on mind- I use to update it everyday until... until... Feel free to leave comments, I love sharing ideas and IF you comment, I might start posting again. Represented are some aspects of who I am. All this together is a small piece of my life.

Christmas is Coming

I'm so excited. So much to do….

Decorate
Clean Carpets
Shop Till I Drop (for ideas)
Make a Budget
Define a Wish List
Shop Till I Drop (spend $)
Go Crazy Finding the Perfect Something for Everone
Wrap it all up in a Frenzy (I wait till the last minute)
Host Christmas at Our House (for the 1st time)
Remember to Keep the Meaning of the Holiday
Do Fun Christmas Activities
Bake Cake for Jesus
Ect Ect

I love to buy gifts for people. Finding that something special that is both personal and thoughtful just is so much fun for me. We're always on a budget so I try really hard to get the most bang for my buck while focusing on the wants and needs/taste of the person I'm buying for.

My first gift on the list is now for my niece Maddy. I don't have a daughter of my own (which kills me) so buying for little girls is especially fun. I found a set of Disney Princess Wigs that I know she'll love (and they come in this cute hat box too). Don't laugh, wigs are cool and every girl has wanted one (or more). But the biggest reason more girls don’t have them is because they’re unusual and not a popular gift to give- that's exactly what I'm looking for. I can't wait to order it but I know I have time and I'll continue to look for the best price/free shipping.

Have you started your shopping? What gift stands out most on you list? I'm brainstorming early but buying late ($$$). That's okay, if I buy too early I tend to overbuy. Anyway, I like the rush I get towards the end when I set out to make my final purchases (either at the store or online) and by shopping around I get really great deals (avoiding that buyer's remorse we all dread).

Do you know what is awesome?!?! Walmart just announced that you could order anything online and have it sent to your local walmart to pickup for no shipping charges. So you can go online order anything and get free shipping and then pick it up at walmart. How cool is this? I might be able to do all my christmas shopping online this year! I wish!

Starbender- I've never done the black Friday thing, I'm always too tired. But it makes sense. Only my kids don't make up their minds until the last minute- hence the reason I keep buying and buying. But I do love when I find those oddball requests. Last year big kid wanted a book about penguins- and I found a great one online. I think the budget will be about $200 total for the two boys- the younger one will get the same amount of stuff but because he's only 3, I'll probably spend less. He'll end up just wanting what big brother has anyway.

JT- I know what you're saying about the Christmas bonus, I'm relying TOO much on it. I hate expecting it. Now it won't feel like a bonus at all because it is already spent/allocated :(

Also, on a sidenote, I don't generally get my boys things they say they want- I look for ideas and then buy other things related that they'd like. Like last year my 2 year old was into Shrek so I bought him the mask and the hands that make sounds. He'd never seen them so I think it added to his excitement when he opened them up. Then there was the little gingerbread talking man- I love it when he says "not my gumdrop bottons". Of couse Baby Jack Jack was a find- he talks, cries, etc.

Now I need to figure out the themes for this year will be- PR may not totally cut it (that and we have so much of that stuff). I may focus on some educational stuff while still buying things that are fun. I'll throw in that new set of PJs to wear Christmas Eve and the cool outfit to wear Christmas Day. Last year I bought slippers but they never wore them so I may nix that this year.

Another secret last year- Kohl's had that spend $50 and get $10 back on a GC to be used the following week- that was AWESOME.

I have never been so excited about Christmas in my whole life. I get to go home! I am still going to decorate my apartment and I think Michael and I will do an early Christmas and exchange gifts.
I am also excited about shopping this year, I got Krit's name in the family drawing. I LOVE shopping for her.

We are not doing gifts this year, at least not for eachother. All the $$ that we have budgeted is going to our vacation fund so we can go back to Hawaii in July with my mom and my brother and sister in law. Krit and JT be glad you get the bonus....I just have to sit back and cry since I won't get one this year...you have to be here 6 months. :( Oh well, it's fair. I love Christmas though, my mom will be here for a week and I'll get a break from school. I am excited about decorating our new house for Christmas and Connor gets to stay with us for a week so that is my bonus for the year. :)

We (the Captain and I) don't often exchange gifts. Money gets too tight and there's already so much else to do. We've done both and either way works. Besides that, we're both really picky. Sometimes we'll hit the after Christmas sales and pick up a few things- that is always fun.

Our family does a gift exchange so everyone is guaranteed something that's cool.

Christmas for us is really about the kids- I LOVE their excitement. I LOVE buying for my kids and for my nieces and nephews.

I don't exchange gifts with friends or co-workers so that makes is easier too.

TinTin- baking is always nice, it's giving from the heart that counts.

Pixie, sounds like you'll be around all your loved ones for the Holidays- that's great.

ReeRee- I can't wait to see my twin again, it has been FOREVER.

Beckster- a Serius (sp?) satellite radio system is really cool! DuckMate has great taste. What are you going to ask him for?

We're staying away from the lists- I'll ask from time to time and the things that really stand out will keep coming up and we'll work from there. I think as kids get older they stop appreciating things and start EXPECTING to get what they want- I'm going to try to nip that in the bud now. I like the element of surprise. One thing that is staying on the verbal list though is that car thing with the big wheels that you push down low or it can ride up high- the commercials play non-stop for it and I'm afraid it is going to be a disappointment but that may be a must have (there are always one or two of those).
