Queen of the Happenstance Realm

Happenstance, it is all just happenstance isn't it? This blog is used to share my thoughts about whatever silly or serious somethin' or other that's on mind- I use to update it everyday until... until... Feel free to leave comments, I love sharing ideas and IF you comment, I might start posting again. Represented are some aspects of who I am. All this together is a small piece of my life.

Good Food

I love good food and I’m not picky- there isn’t much out there that I don’t like. Last night the hubby made shrimp in alfredo sauce, french bread buttered and cooked with lots of garlic, and the most delicious thing he’s made as of yet- scallions fried in sesame oil (with lots of garlic too). It was AMAZING. But I have to say, all the work sort-of backfired. I ate and ate and drank and drank and the combo left me feeling a lil’ worse for the wear. Poor guy- he took the kids shopping to buy all this wonderful food, was preparing for me when I got home, had straightened the house, and basically worked his butt off to make me feel loved and he ended up with a wife feeling too junky to be any fun. What a good husband, what a bummer of a wife. I’ll have to come up with some way to show my appreciation in return…

Anyway, I enjoy cooking but only when I can afford to buy the ingredients without feeling bad and if I’m cooking something I couldn’t eat out. The best days to cook are the lazy ones. You’ve been lounging and taking it easy, you get out some cookbooks, find the yummiest of recipes, go shopping, come home and go to town (cooking). No rushing, no worries, you just enjoy the process. Now in 8 years of marriage- that’s happened about 10 times and most of those were BK (before kids). Life gets busy and food isn’t a high priority to me. I’d rather throw in a bag of prepared stir fry with low fat ingredients and add a lil’ something here and there (peanut butter being a favorite). That way I don’t feel fat for eating it, it is an easy cleanup, there’s no defrosting/preparing/planning/stressing and it costs less than fast food. But that’s just me- what about you?

WOW, I am impressed with your husband! That is TOO sweet and sounds good. I am just now figuring out that I actually don't mind cooking, I love to cook for us but right now it is so hard. I never get home before 8:30 and if for some reason I get home earlier...I don't want to cook. On the weekends I will cook, but it is usually something simple like pork chops and rice or spaghetti. I can cook one meal and that will last for days since it is just the two of us. I am excited to learn new dishes though! I wish we could eat seafood at home, but I am allergic so I don't cook it. I should probably cook it for Curt anyway, just to be sweet. :)

Pixie: you're allergic to seafood- that is so sad. We love seafood, can't get enough of it. But too often we eat it when it has been soaked in butter/galic and whatnot so it isn't really healthy. Good thing it isn't cheap or we'd be FAT.

I remember BK (before kids) we use to cook more (and better tasting food)- but even then it is difficult. You have so much going on, I wouldn't worry about it. You have the rest of your life to cook nice meals.

JT: I have heard of those places, it sounds like fun. I would love to give it a try. Maybe when things calm down us girls can go up there and prepare some meals. I think you can split the costs/meals too. A Mom I talked to said her and her friend take a bottle of wine when the go and they have a blast.

I am a bad sister - I did not call you on you Anniversary, sorry. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
I love to cook, and I cook two dinners most nights. I cook my dinner, then when Michael is on is way I home I cook him dinner. Most of the time they are simple, but on Michael's days off we have been trying new recipes. Mom gave me these really great magizines that are filled with really great recipes, most of them do not require anything too weird or too expensive. Maybe, I will start putting some of my favorites on my blog.
Mike is really sweet for doing all that stuff for you. If you are feeling up to it, you should do something nice and unexpected for him.
