Queen of the Happenstance Realm

Happenstance, it is all just happenstance isn't it? This blog is used to share my thoughts about whatever silly or serious somethin' or other that's on mind- I use to update it everyday until... until... Feel free to leave comments, I love sharing ideas and IF you comment, I might start posting again. Represented are some aspects of who I am. All this together is a small piece of my life.

How can anyone look at a sleeping child and not see the glory of God?

Speaking of... I have received this email before (see below) and at one time related to it BIG TIME. Read it, below each line of theirs you'll see my comments. I’m happy to say I don’t relate to it as much anymore and I’m so grateful to be able to say that. Isn’t it funny how we let ourselves off the hook because we say that everyone does the same thing- comparing ourselves to other people instead of to Christ.

Ref Email (with my comments)…
IT'S STRANGE ISN'T IT

Isn't it strange how a 20 dollar bill seems like such a large amount when you donate it to church, but such a small amount when you go shopping?
I’ve definitely reevaluated the way I see money. All be it I’m not tithing my full 10%, I’ve got a plan and not having a plan that makes that a priority is the reason I’m not. A friend talked about how his Pastor said “if you’re not tithing, you need to reevaluate your priorities” and went on to say “maybe your house is too big”. That isn’t something we often hear- maybe what we have is more than we need. Interesting. It is in our nature to want more and more, that’s ambition and ambition in and of itself is good- but what is it based on- your need to get ahead and indulge in the things of this world or to return to God what is already his (because isn’t it true that we can’t out give him- thanks Doug for that insight)? Now I didn't get so self indulged over night so I'm giving myself some time to undo the decisions (financial ones) knowing most changes that keep, takes focus and time.

Isn't it strange how 2 hours seem so long when you're at church, and how short they seem when you're watching a good movie?
Yeah, one’s attention span should not be contingent on our entertainment “needs”- but on our growing needs as individuals in our Christian walk.

Isn't it strange that you can't find a word to say when you're praying, but you have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend? That’s where that daily dialogue with God needs to come in. He shouldn’t be in a box reserved for your time before sleep and eating.

Isn't it strange how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel? Reading a study bible has helped me out greatly in this regard. To me it is important to learn about your faith, how can you believe in something you are not aware of all the details on?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games, but they do whatever is possible to sit at the last row in Church? Well not sure if where you sit directly correlates to your feelings of the moment, but if it does think about sitting closer (and then sit closer).

Isn't it strange how we need to know about an event for Church 2-3 weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda, but we can adjust it for other events at the last minute? I have going to Church on my schedule. I plan on going every Sunday. When I use to try to fit it in as an afterthought almost anything else came before it (sleeping in, going shopping, whatever). Not that anyone is perfect.

Isn't it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about God to share it with others, but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip? Gossip is dangerous. I do think talking about concerns are important and can be used as learning opportunities- I guess intent is the key factor here. Talking about God is hard because it is important that you get it right and that you do your best to not turn people off of the Word but still be true to your beliefs.

Isn't it strange how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say, but we question the words in the Bible? Questioning things is fine as long as you seek the answers. Any questions you have related the Bible has answers in the Bible.

Isn't it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven, but they don't want to believe, do, or say anything to get there? I think we know we can’t earn our place in heaven, but through the grace of God we are given the opportunity to enter the gates. Then as a result of being Christians, our lives are enriched and we become his- as his we reap the rewards (if not now at least in the end and those rewards are different to our Christian selves than our worldly selves).

Isn't it strange how we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded right away, but when we are going to send messages about God, we think about it twice before we share it with others? Maybe but sharing messages about God through email isn’t good enough- it is nice but doesn’t get you off the hook in regards to living a full Christian life (which is an awesome goal).

My thoughts…
What are yours?
